HID powers secure mobile banking for Santander International

HID is recognised by Santander International as an experienced provider of strong customer authentication, and is proud to be a trusted security partner

HID’s collaboration with Santander International was borne out of its own long-standing partnership with Temenos.

When Santander International selected Temenos for its digital banking platform, HID was also brought on board as a provider of strong customer authentication to protect digital banking channels.

“Many of our authentication features and capabilities beyond authentication are seamlessly integrated with the Temenos banking platform, and this was a great fit for Santander International,” explains Caleb Wattles, Senior Product Manager in the Identity and Access Management division at HID.

“In the case of Santander International, they initially implemented HID solutions to protect their web banking and subsequently their mobile banking channel. I speak on behalf of HID when I say we're proud to be a trusted Santander International security partner.”

HID: A trusted security partner

HID has helped Santander International to transform its web banking into a convenient, seamless mobile banking experience using its mobile client SDK, which is fully integrated into Santander International’s mobile banking application.

Called HID Approve, the mobile SDK supports login and transaction signing for a smooth, secure authentication experience.

“What's interesting about Santander International is they actually transformed from using our off-the-shelf mobile authenticator client to embedding the technology stack directly into their mobile application,” adds Wattles.

“This highlights how each customer has their unique requirements, and how HID can meet the customer wherever they are in their digital transformation journey.”

Ultimately, HID strives to be a trusted security partner for Santander International.

Robust and flexible security

HID’s mobile authentication solution is best summarised as offering robust security paired with a high degree of flexibility.

Providing ‘robust’ security might appear obvious on first glance, but the key from HID’s perspective is to always innovate and provide more user-friendly authentication methods to customers, thus benefiting the end user.

HID uses various methods to ensure the technology itself is also robust, which includes automatic key rotation capabilities built into the mobile authentication solution, runtime application self-protection, and finally subjecting the tech to rigorous security certification programmes.

“When it comes to the high degree of flexibility,” Wattles continues, “we offer 70+ configurable security policies, giving banks very granular control over the exact security posture they require and the user experience they want.”

Continued collaboration

Santander International, like any bank, is at its own unique junction in the digital transformation journey, carrying with it a number of implications.

All banks are navigating a testing landscape when it comes to cybersecurity, often having to adhere to strict regulations and working within the constraints of tight budgets and their own IT infrastructure.

To hammer home the point, banks face the pressure of having to deliver products and services with exceptional user experience, while trying to stay one step ahead of a faceless cohort of cyber fraud criminals whose activities are intensifying and increasing in sophistication.

Wattles concludes: “All this serves to highlight the fact that HID understands banks have a wide range of needs, and our goal is to provide the tools to empower banks to protect their customers and their reputation.

“We also try to do that by meeting banks wherever they are in their journey. As Santander International continues its digital transformation, we look forward to continuing to support them along the way.”
